Installing Software for the Xerox DT-6100 System

NOTE: In order to perform this installation, the user MUST have the Novell networking software installed on their computer.

The procedure for installing the software for the Xerox DT-6100 involves the following steps:

• Installing the ACITS print driver
  
• Installing the XPPS (Xerox Print Production System) software
  
• Configuring the printer port.

Note: Make sure that you close all running programs (WordPerfect, Word, Eudora, Netscape, etc.) before beginning this procedure!

1. Run Windows Explorer

2. In Explorer's left panel, scroll down until you see Sys on Staff01 (F:) or Sys on Faculty01 (F:), and click on the + sign to it.

3. Locate the folder called Public and click on the + sign next to it.

4. Locate the folder called Xerox and click on the + sign next to it.

5. Locate the folder called DT135 and double-click on it.

6. In the right panel, double-click on the file INSTLPR.EXE

7. Click Yes to continue

8. Click Next on the Welcome screen

9. Click Yes on the License screen

10. In the window titled ASetup Complete@, click on the box labeled AYes, Display the Installation Instructions@ so that it is NOT selected, then click Finish.

11. When the installation program completes, if there is a window titled AC:\Start Menu\Programs\ACITS Remote Printing@, close it by clicking on the X in the upper right corner.

1. Windows Explorer should still be running and pointing to the F:\public\xerox\dt135 folder. If it is not, follow steps a through e. above

2. In the right panel of Explorer, right mouse-click on the file XPPS_FOR_WIN.EXE. In the Menu that appears, left click on Copy.

3. In the left panel of Explorer, scroll all the way to the top and left mouse-click once on Desktop.

4. In the right panel of Explorer, point your mouse to an empty space and right mouse-click. In the Menu that appears, left mouse-click on Paste. The file will be copied.

5. In the right panel of Explorer, double click on the XPPS_FOR_WIN.EXE file. The program installation will begin.

6. Click Next on the Welcome page

7. Click AI Agree@ in the License Agreement window.

8. If you have run this installation once before, you may get an error message stating that AThe file A\xpps_cd\autorun.inf is already installed on your system@, click on Yes to All to overwrite the file(s).

9. When the XPPS Distribution Browser window appears, click on the Windows 95/98 choice.

10. Click on Install Xerox Printer Drivers and XDS

11. On the Welcome screen, click Next

12. Click Next in the Setup Type window. If a Confirm New Folder window appears, click Yes and allow Setup to create the folder for you.

13. In the Select Components window, in the left panel, click and select both the XDS and DT Server components, then click Next.

14. Click Yes on the Adobe End User License Agreement.

15. Click Next in the Port Assignment window

16. Click Next in the Start Copying File window.

17. Click on the Yes, I to view the README file selection so that it is NOT selected, then click Finish.

18. Click Exit in the XPPS Distribution Browser window

19. Close Windows Explorer.

1. Click Start, Settings, Printers

2. You should see four new Xerox printers

3. By clicking on each one, you will view its entire name

4. Delete the two Xerox Docutech 90 printers by pointing to them (one at a time), right-clicking on the icon, then left mouse click on Delete. (Click Yes when asked if you are sure.)

5. Delete the Xerox DT-6100 PS2 C5 printer also.

6. Right-mouse click on the DT-6100 PCL 5e icon, then left mouse click on Properties.

7. In the DT-6100 Properties window, click on the Details tab.

8. Click on Add Port

9. Click on Other in the Add Port window

10. Select ACITS LPR Remote Printing, then click OK

11. In the Add LPR Remote Printing window, enter the following information:

Hostname or IP Address: 10.1.10.12

Print/Queue Name: NSPLUS_DT1 (enter in UPPER CASE)

12. Click OK

13. Click on Spool Settings

14. Click on Start printing after last page is spooled

15. Check the line for Spool Data Format. It should be set to RAW. If it is not, click on the down arrow to the right of the line and change it.

16. Click OK

17. Click Apply, then click OK to close the Properties window.

18. Close the Printers window

19. Delete the XPPS_FOR_WIN.EXE icon from the Windows Desktop by clicking on it once, then pressing the Delete key on your keyboard. When asked if you are sure, click Yes.

To print a document using this new printer, you must select it before beginning the printing process.

In WordPerfect, before the print job actually begins, a Print To window will appear and you may change the default printer to the Xerox DT-6100 PCL5e, then click the Print button.

In Microsoft Word, you cannot simply click on the printer icon on the Word Tool Bar. You must click on File, Print, then change from your default printer to the Xerox DT-6100 PCL5e, then click on the Print button.

Using the Properties function of the Xerox Docutech 6100

Before you send a print job to the Copy Center, you may use the Properties button of the Docutech to enter the specifics of the job ticket (# copies, double-sided, stapled, etc). To do this, click on the Properties button after you have selected the Docutech.
